' A man who has changed the destiny of his people '

Allen Vincatassin was born at Diego Garcia in the British Indian Ocean Territory(Formerly Chagos Archipelago), and was evicted in 1971 with his family, to live in exile in the island of Mauritius.

The island of Diego Garcia was found to be an ideal and most strategic place for a defense military base for the US. The British Government made this island available to the US for a period of fifty years, while its people(about 1500 people) were evicted and sent to live in acute poverty in Mauritius, while others were sent to the Seychelles. All the islanders were banished from their homeland.

On the 16th of September 2002, he pioneered the first group of Diego Garcians and other Chagossians to settle in the United Kingdom, and has helped several groups to settle in the UK, and since then he has continued to campaign for the right of his people.

In November 2008 and in January 2010 Allen managed to get some of his fellow countrymen to visit their homeland from the UK, after 40 years of exile.

On the 26th of January 2011 Allen Vincatassin was elected by his fellow countrymen as President of the Provisional Govenment of Diego Garcia and the Chagos Islands in exile(in waiting). The election was conducted by the Electoral Reform Services. He has formed his cabinet and is now fulfilling his duties as the head of this Government based in the UK ,where he lives with his wife Joelle and her daughter Allena, until he is allowed to return to his homeland Diego Garcia one day.
